Runestone, a Bitcoin Ordinals project, mined the largest Bitcoin block in history and inscribed the largest inscription ever, a 3.97MB Runestone.
The Runestone is being actioned today (Friday, March 8th) with a current bid of over 4 BTC (~$275,000).
While people spending a few Bitcoin on digital art may seem like a silly waste of time, there is a case to be made that the energy, culture, and activity happening on Bitcoin is a testament to a strengthening Bitcoin-builder ecosystem.
The previous NFT craze was based on Ethereum. Now it’s happening on Bitcoin. Bitcoin Builders unite!
Meta Protocols
Supporting the narrative of the Runestone story, Bitcoin Ordinals sales have officially surpassed Ethereum NFT sales in the past 7 days as NodeMonkes on Bitcoin has seen a surge.
Bitcoin wallet company Oyl secured a $3M pre-seed investment round. Oyl aims to become the first Bitcoin wallet to incorporate “in-wallet” trading of Ordinals.
Layers and Rollups
Congrats to Bison Labs for closing its seed funding round. Bison Labs is building a trustless on-chain sovereign rollup on Bitcoin, powered by ZK-proofs.
B² Network, with the tagline “the most practical Bitcoin Layer-2” and over $500,000,000 in TVL, announced a partnership with UniRouter to support liquid staking on Bitcoin.
Another Bitcoin staking headline: Babylon announces its trustless Bitcoin Staking Testnet. This release enables users to stake their Bitcoin to contribute to the economic security of Proof of Stake systems.
Along the same vein, Stacks announced 8 new Signers committed to supporting the Stacks Layer. These signers like Bockdaemon and NEAR Foundation contribute significant resources to contributing to Stacks consensus.
